WHO EXPERIENCED ROBBERY IN 2017–18? (Table 18)

During the 2017–18 reference period, 0.3% of persons aged 15 years and over (50,700) experienced at least one incident of robbery (or attempted robbery). The robbery victimisation rate was 0.3% (31,000) for men and 0.2% (17,000) for women.

WHETHER MOST RECENT INCIDENT WAS REPORTED TO POLICE (Table 19)

Just over half (58% or 29,400) of all persons who experienced robbery reported the most recent incident to police.

OTHER SELECTED CHARACTERISTICS OF MOST RECENT INCIDENT (Table 19)

In the most recent incident of robbery (where property was stolen or attempted to be stolen):

  • the perpetrator was most commonly a male (81%)
  • most incidents (78%) did not involve the use of a weapon
  • most people did not have property stolen (60%).
